Ubuhlanti was born as a gathering of the non-profit organisation Bridges For Music, with the aim of sharing the AfrikaBurn experience with young people from its programs in local communities.
Aware of the diversity challenges at AfrikaBurn and with the knowledge of how much of a change the AfrikaBurn experience can have in someone’s life, Bridges for Music set up this camp as a coming-together of friends, supporters, and artists from local communities as well as from around the world. After seven years, the camp has managed to sponsor over 50 people to attend the burn and has raised crucial funding to cover the running costs of the Bridges Academy in Langa township (Cape Town, South Africa).
This year’s concept is to create a stage representing a mini township in a circle symbolising Ubuhlanti (kraal), a sacred space in the South African local cultures. The Kraal is surrounded by 10 structures, showcasing South African township communities and culture.
