How to not use money (A decommodification perspective)

Not using money doesn’t only start when you hit the Tankwa. It’s a deep and meaningful practice that will leave you feeling exhuberated and empowered as you master it’s illusive art.
Draw up a list of your absolute needs
Be yourself and see where that leads
Make a friend for every day
Clear out the extra’s and come what may.
When needs seem great and make you wait
Give away something and don’t be late
Asking for a need is a friend indeed
So you can use your cash on higher deeds
This is simple and sweet but it tells the story of how, when you focus on acquiring the needs in your life through alternate means than money, you gain two things.

  1. More cash on hand to go toward a higher purpose in your life, such as health or travel, growth etc.
  2. A powerful network of everything you need, ever in your lifetime. Friends and community are the key.

Years of desert wandering have taught me that the less you spend to be satisfied, the more the world opens up to you. Think about this as you approach Tankwa town. See what happens when you don’t go on a buying spree this week.. Reach out to friends and see how you can all go lighter, go easier, be more efficient. Rather give everything you take and see what that creates.
