Soon after announcing the theme last year, we sent out a request to our community of artists and illustrators to help us design the 2024 AfrikaBurn poster for CREATION. We had so many talented people get in touch and offer to help that it was almost impossible to decide what to do … At the same time, we had our first art residencies take place with up-and-coming artists Zama Mwandla and Ariel Tavener, so we also invited them to take part in developing the poster.

As a part of their art residency, the Zama and Ariel were invited to spend time in Quaggafontein, the forever home of AfrikaBurn, which borders the Tankwa Karoo National Park. They were encouraged to use their stay and the landscapes, fauna, flora and starscapes to inform their bodies of work. 

The talented Tash Casey, then took Zama and Ariel’s Quaggafontein-inspired artwork that contained themes of birth, death, the universe, and nature, building a mystical starscape collage of sketches and textures that would form the foundation of this year’s poster. We then added to this a selection of sketches and drawings from the notebooks of Antonia Cronje (our ex-DPW lead and talented artist in her own right), along with the poetry of Chillaz coordinator Sindy Dondolo to create a rich and detailed CREATION-inspired artwork for the 2024 AfrikaBurn poster.

CREATION posters can be collected now … in person at Volunteer Days or from our HQ in Cape Town during office hours. For those of you who can’t get to Cape Town right now, there is a downloadable version HERE that you can take to your local print shop.
