AfrikaBurn communications and archivist internships offered

AfrikaBurn is offering the following work-based internship opportunities commencing September 2023:

1 x Communications internship
1 x Archivist internship

The internship is coordinated through Art Bank of South Africa, and funded by the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme. The work-based learning experience is hosted at AfrikaBurn’s headquarters, at the Junction Hotel, Salt River, Cape Town.

Eligibility

Applications are open to candidates who: 

Hold a diploma or degree of NQF6 level or higher
Are between 18-35 years of age.
Are not currently benefiting from PESP4 funding through another project (this will be verified by Art Bank of South Africa).

Communications intern requirements:

Strong online skills – working with multimedia, images, video, text etc.
Ability to develop creative concepts and deliver campaigns
Experience with a variety of social media channels
Ability to research effectively
Excellent writing skills in English
Familiarity with Google Suite
Experience with design software such as Photoshop, Affinity, Canva etc.

Archivist intern requirements:

Strong digital skills – working with multimedia, images, video, text etc.
Good knowledge of AfrikaBurn and its creative outputs
Ability to research and fact-check in detail
Experience in digital content management systems
Familiarity with Google Suite

An ideal AfrikaBurn applicant is:

Motivated, reliable, and able to take initiative to start projects.
Well organised and meticulous with details.
Able to work in a consultative, collaborative working environment with the AfrikaBurn team.

Willing to roll up their sleeves and get hands-on with a variety of tasks
Keen to engage with and work within the ethos and guiding principles of AfrikaBurn

Please submit a letter of motivation, along with your CV, certified copy of ID, and proof of qualifications.
Applications are currently open, the deadline for submission is 31 August.
Selection is subject to Art Bank of South Africa approval
Interview –  September.
Commencement – September

Internship Overview

Each internship runs for four months in total.
A monthly stipend of R5700 (total stipend for the four months R22800).
The programme is based at the Junction Hotel, Salt River, Cape Town.

A second cycle of internships will be advertised for November 2023 – March 2024

AfrikaBurn is the strategic driver of Burning Man culture in the Southern African region and plays a significant role in the arts and culture sector of South Africa. Most known for its flagship event in the Tankwa Karoo, as a public benefit organisation, AfrikaBurn is the human scaffold that helps a diverse creative community propel numerous arts and development projects.   

ArtBank of South Africa is based at the National Museum, an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
