The AfrikaBurn Art Portfolio is looking for a full-time Art Administrator who can appreciate a spreadsheet as much as a sunrise in the desert to join our team in Cape Town.
We’re looking for a young professional with a background in the arts, ready to grow with the ever-evolving work that is to stay relevant and cause impact in the world through community-driven art within the South-African context.
AfrikaBurn is the strategic driver of Burning Man culture in the Southern African region and plays a significant role in the arts and culture sector of South Africa. Most known for its flagship event in the Tankwa Karoo, as a public benefit organisation, AfrikaBurn is the human scaffold that helps a diverse creative community propel numerous arts and development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support:
- Creative Projects Documentation: Record, track, and follow-up on project registrations;
- Segment and compile project and artist’s information;
- Archive appropriately all portfolio’s related information;
- Assist with day-to-day operations.
- Volunteers Liaison and Coordination:
- Wrangle and coordinate the various Art teams and committees (e.g., ArtCom, Structural Safety, Arteria);
- Facilitate collaborations between projects and volunteers;
- Maintain the art volunteers database and knowledge base;
- Handle all art portfolio volunteers related matters – Communicating, Calling, Scheduling, Recording, Filing, Assisting, Guiding, etc.
- Communications & Reporting:
- Monitor and respond to art-related email correspondence;
- Ensure the distribution of up-to-date art information across AfrikaBurn’s channels;
- Take note and flag any publishing of any AfrikaBurn art related content that poses a risk to the AfrikaBurn Ethos and Culture;
- Contribute to reporting and reflection;
- Protect the Art and the Artists, and act to ensure fair and equitable radical-self-expression.
Requirements:
- A diploma or degree in Arts, Humanities, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Workspace (specially Sheets and Docs), willingness to experiment with new tools, and system-driven curiosity.
- Time and travel flexibility:
- Working with volunteers means that often we work weekends and evenings;
- Ability to work within an online environment; and a minimum of 3 days a week from our office in Salt River;
- Availability to travel to the Tankwa Karoo when necessary outside of the annual event time
- Bonus Points for:
- Have attended the annual AfrikaBurn event in the Tankwa Karoo at least once.
- Have volunteered at any AfrikaBurn event at least once.
- Multilingual skills in one or more of the South-African languages, besides English.
- Driver’s Licence is not mandatory, but it’s useful.
