If it’s November, then it’s open season on DPW signups. Here’s word from Princess Caralot, our DPW Crew Wrangler:
Howzit people of the dust!
Are you thinking of applying to be on DPW but you’re not sure what to expect? Don’t fear, I’m here to tell you a little bit more about what we do for that thing in the Karoo.
DPW is dedicated to laying the blank canvas upon which Tankwa Town is then built on. What does that mean?
It means that for weeks before the event begins, we’re toiling in the heat and the dust laying roads, putting up signs, setting up the toilets, gate, medics, sanctuary and other essential on site services. We also help set up the airport, assist with art builds where we can and make sure Off Centre Camp is good to go.
We make sure that all of these different departments have power and lighting and don’t forget the kitchen – the crew that feeds us out there!
During the event? Daily toilet runs mafakas! It’s our job to make sure that the loos we erected stay clean and usable throughout the event. It’s probably the most fun thing you can do (even when we find boskak). And the weeks after the event? That’s when we erase all trace of our existence out there. Think about all the things I listed above, now imagine them all going backwards. That’s the break down.
Our workdays begin with a morning meeting at sunrise and end at sunset. It’s a long day in the dust, sun and wind but we do what we gotta do to get shit done.
After dark? Two rules: 1. Party as hard as you can work the next day. 2. Don’t fuck it up for anyone else. You’re responsible for looking after yourself – if you’re a social butterfly who likes to hang loose in the evenings, make sure you can maintain for a full day’s work the next day. Miss a morning meeting due to late night revelry? Three strikes and you’re out. No exceptions.
We’re a small crew, but we’re a tight crew and every single person has to pull their weight so we can build this thing together. We need heroic, determined, hardworking, creative, interesting, dedicated humans that are down to work side by side with one another in dangerous and hostile conditions every day to achieve a common goal.
After reading through all of this do you feel your heart beating a little faster? Find yourself excited to DO THE THING?
Click here to apply, we want YOU!
