Outer Connections and into SPACE with SANCTUARY

Afrikaburn Sunset

Immediacy at Sanctuary comes through respecting the NOW and knowing when to step IN to a situation and when to step OUT. Checking in for CONSENT and what our guests are looking for, without assuming that we know what is best puts our guests at the CENTRE of our SPACE. Being present for our own needs supports the experience of the space for our guests.
RADICAL INCLUSION is to welcome the stranger. You don’t need to “know people” ahead of the burn to be part of the friendly Sanctuary team. You simply need to know yourself and your own strengths, weaknesses and boundaries, and be ready to be welcomed with what you offer!
RADICAL SELF EXPRESSION comes in all shapes and sizes, as the saying goes. However you express yourself out on the Binnekring is fine with us, and we will welcome your COMPASSION AND EMPATHY as your Volunteer Self into Sanctuary shifts – whatever else your burn contains!

  1. I like what you are doing here, the holistic health of everybody is very important. I do have something to add and it may be in place but I am not aware of it. To inform everybody of a onsite sanctuary during the Burn, where anybody feeling a risk or a direct violation can come and be treated in the correct manner (whatever that may be). Further, to appeal to the burners if we see anything which seems to be crossing a boundary to try and intervene or come and discuss it. This could be seen as a whistle blower, I do not like that word “whistle blower” as in these times it is not getting good publicity, but I am sure you could come up with much better wording to suite the burn. Confidentiality is important, just some thoughts from me.
