Shout out for your never-ending joy. For being one half of the Cutest Duo. For capturing DPW at their best (because you bring out the best in them). You hit DPW hard; the resonance will be felt long after you leave. You were the delight in the desert and in the trying times – you brought the light.

Name/Burner Name: My name is Sinethemba Mzinyathi, burner name BOBO-ASHANTI

For how long have you been part of AfrikaBurn? This was my second year attending although burn has been part of my orbit, even on my first time it felt more home

What made you want to join the community? After attending my first burn I was more thrilled and eager to get more involved. Every shift I volunteered on broadened my insight, the benefiting part about volunteering you build a connection with the community.

What is your role within the community? DEE PEE DOUBLE YOU (DPW) SHADE-CREW! But I believe I’m more than that. I help anyhow and wherever I’m needed, being part of DPW expands on radical self-inclusion and communal effort.

What do you love about AfrikaBurn? I’ve been searching for words and feelings to describe my experience. This year I was more in a witnessing position (mostly) the backscene with DPW to see how magic connects. I’m mostly engaged by gratitude every time I think about the burn, it’s anthological to put on words. Mostly grateful with the set of skills I’ve departed with from the desert – no one ever speaks about the moment you step unto the PLAYA maybe that day you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed or a bit sad it’s as though that the people can feel/sense it – they give you hugs that would set your frequency right. I miss desert hugs.

Fun facts! I I’m a lense based artist but for the first time I wasn’t as close to my camera as I usually would be , I didn’t take more than 100pictures , every time I looked through the viewfinder I couldn’t see due to the fact my eye were filled with tears , for the first time I wept more than once not because of sad situation because of thousands of strangers united by love.
We appreciate you, BOBO, and are thrilled to have you on our #WALL OF FIRE!

Stay tuned for more amazing stories from our volunteers!
